Accomodation
We have made every endeavor to keep the farmhouse's original charm whilst adding our own unique touches. If you love living close to nature, enjoy the rustic feel of years gone by and you are looking for somewhere to relax and have fun, Os Figueros will provide all that in abundance and will keep you coming back year and year again. If however you can't stand insects and are looking for a spotless, clinical experience, then this is not the place for you.
The Old Farmhouse
For up to 15 People. The Old Farmhhouse surrounds the inner courtyard. It has 8 bedrooms (three of which lead out onto the balcony, three into the courtyard) made up of single, double and triple rooms. It has a very large sitting room of 44 m2 and a kitchen/dining room. There are three bathrooms also leading out onto the courtyard.
La Maison de Gabriel
A part of the farmhouse which can be self contained for 2-4 people. Set along one side of the inner courtyard, La Maison de Gabriel is all on one floor. It has 2 double bedrooms, a kitchen/sitting room, a bathroom and toilet. You also have full use of the courtyard, gardens etc
Le Pigeonnier
For 1-2 people. Set apart from the rest of the house, Le Pigeonnier, a converted dovecote is situated in the garden, next to the orchard. It is for people who like simplicity, to feel part of nature and have a sense of adventure. You will be provided with atmospheric oil lamps at night as Le Pigeonnier is without electricity. It has two small rooms set on two floors with the sitting room on the ground floor and the bedroom above. Each room is 4 m2. The courtyard and kitchen and bathrooms are 50 metres away.
You can rent the whole of the property which will include 8 bedrooms, plus the pigeonnier, four bathrooms, two kitchens and various sitting and dining areas. Set around all four sides of the courtyard you will feel like kings of the castle in this 17th century farmhouse. Or you can rent the farmhouse, or la maison de gabriel or the pigeonnier seperately
Courtyard and Gardens
Whatever property you rent you can use the courtyard and gardens, open barn and great barn. There are tables for eating outside in the courtyard and gardens, recliners, deckchairs hammocks etc
Activities
Use of the garden, field, barns and courtyard are included with all bookings. You can play table tennis, boules, badminton, croquet, table football while bikes and a canoe are available on request.
In the quietness of this environment, creativity, painting, drawing and writing may also appeal inspired by the beauty of the surrounding nature, and the heritage of Honoré de Balzac, the famous 19th century French writer whose family worked the land around the farm. We can provide materials on request. We can also provide wood and tools for you to make an object or create a piece of sculpture.
Os Figueiros and it's surroundings are a haven for wildlife. You will see an abundance of butterflies, hear the cicadas in the summer and the frogs in spring. Lizards laze in the sunshine amongst the vines and wild strawberries. The insect life is extremely rich; praying mantises a real delight. Birds sometimes nest in the courtyard of the farmhouse, and swallows circle the skies above. At night our resident colony of bats feed on insects. On your walks you might encounter deer, hares, red squirrel and an amazing variety of birds of prey.
The Surrounding Area
Swimming, Canoeing, Rock Climbing. The river Viaur, just a 5 minute drive away provides ample places & opportunities for swimming & canoeing. Little beaches abound or walk a bit along unfrequented paths to idyllic spots and swim to your heart's desire. There is also a nearby rock climbing sites along its shore.
Walking. We are a 10 minute walk from links to the Grande Randonnée, a network of footpaths which allow you to cross France through the countryside avoiding all roads and taking you along scenic routes. In this part of France you can walk through woods and fields, climb to the top of hills, or down to hidden spots along the deep valleys of the meandering river Viaur passing close by or through unheralded gems of villages such as Lagarde-Viaur perched on the hillside. You could spend the whole of your holiday exploring on foot, discovering little known spots, old churches, abandoned villages.
Towns & Villages.
Unspoilt, beautiful villages are dotted amongst the rolling landscape wherever you go.
Villefranche de Rouergue, a bustling town with a beautiful colonaded central square and narrow medieval streets is a 35 minute drive away.Its weekly Thursday market is well worth visiting. Najac and Cordes Sur Ciel, both listed as amongst France's most beautiful villages can be reached in 15 minutes and are not to be missed. Many other beautiful villages such as Monesties, Bor et Bar and Sauveterre de Rouerge are all just a few minutes drive away. In the summer months you will find many local festivals and concerts in all the surrounding villages where you will be welcomed by the locals. There are many restaurants in the area, offering beautiful settings for meals on balmy summer nights, or lunch by the river at the local creperie(july and august).
Najac
There are many interesting towns and villages to visit within the Midi Pyrenees. The vibrant city of Toulouse is 1 1/2 hrs away. The hometown of Toulouse Lautrec, Albi is 40 minutes drive. It has a beautiful medieval centre with meandering pedestrian streets and an impressive cathedral.
