Activities
Towns and villages
At less than an hour away Albi, the home town of Toulouse Lautrec, with its pink medieval centre nestling by the river, is a beautiful and interesting town with lots of cultural activities and well worth a visit. Villefranche de Rouergue, a small bustling city with a flourishing market, Najac and Cordes are also not to be missed. Many beautiful villages such as Monesties, Bor et Bar, La Salvetat Peyrales and many more are all a few minutes drive away.

Najac
Dancing, music, theatre :
Festivals take place in many nearby villages and towns in the summer. For instance there are village fetes every week-end, a theatre festival in Vaour, music and jazz in Sauveterre, Marciac, Monesties, and other villages. This region has a rich history in which the Cathars played an important role. Many ruined castles stand witness to the repression led against Catharism and the Albigenses in the 13th century.
Walking the Grande Randonnée :
We are 5 minutes walk from linking to the Grande Randonnée, a network of footpaths which allow you to cross France through the countryside avoiding all roads and taking you along scenic routes. Here you can walk through woods and fields halfway up the river gorges or make your way down to hidden spots along the meandering river Viaur.
There are also beautiful walks through the countryside around the house.
Wildlife :
Sparsely populated and covered with ancient forests, this area is a haven for wildlife. You will see an abundance of butterflies, hear the cicadas in the summer and the frogs in spring. On your walks you might encounter deer, hares, red squirrels and an amazing variety of birds of prey. The insect life is extremely rich. In the courtyard of our farmhouse, birds are nesting in the summer with swallows circling the open skies above, while at night our resident colony of bats feeds on insects. Lizards laze in the sunshine, near the well and amongst the vines and wild strawberries in the courtyard.
Swimming and other sports

The Viaur
You can swim or canoe in the waters of the Viaur from little river beaches with a marvellous backdrop of surrounding hills and perched medieval villages. There is a rock climbing site overlooking the Viaur, and numerous walks along the banks while you can hire dinghies to sail in a nearby lake.
At Os Figueiros itself
We provide Table Tennis, Boules, Badminton, Croquet, Table Football while bikes and a canoe are also available.
In the quietness of this environment, creativity and painting, drawing and writing are activities that particularly appeal inspired by the beauty of nature and the heritage of Honoré de Balzac, the famous 19th century French writer whose family worked the land around the farm. We can provide materials on demand. We can also provide wood and tools for you to make an object or create a piece of sculpture.
